We use the ‘Working Scientifically Butterfly’ to assess working scientifically skills. We have summarised the skills into seven areas:
1. Asking questions and predicting
2. Planning
3. Setting up and performing tests
4. Reporting and explaining
5. Concluding and evaluating
6. Observing and measuring
7. Recording
This is used in conjunction with the assessment trackers to determine the depth at which children are demonstrating these skills, and which areas need further development/attention to encourage a well-rounded skillset.
