Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

The conditions of ADHD and ADD (without hyperactivity) fall within the SEMH broad category of need. A child with ADHD or ADD may have overlapping areas of need.

ADHD and ADD are neurodevelopmental conditions that affect how a person is able to manage their attention and impulsivity-hyperactivity, leading to difficulty with their day-to-day functioning and development. There is no one cause of ADHD/ADD – both genetic and environmental factors play a part.

In Derbyshire, ADHD or ADD is not diagnosed earlier than 5 and a half years old.

If you want your child to be assessed for ADHD, please contact the school SENDCO, Mrs Hannah Pearson. We will then make an appointment to discuss this together. We may refer to the Neurodevelopmental Pathway of Derbyshire’s Single Point of Access following a discussion. The assessment pathway usually takes more than a year.
