School – led tutoring 2021/22

We used the full allocation of the school-led tutoring grant to provide tutoring using existing staff, and one recruited teacher.

We prioritised disadvantaged and vulnerable pupils, which included:

  • Pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities
  • Pupils who have a social worker
  • Previously looked-after pupils
  • Other vulnerable pupils

We used termly assessment data to review pupil progress; gaps were addressed quickly and effectively.

We maximised the impact of tutoring sessions by:

  • Explicitly linking sessions to classroom teaching and pupils’ specific needs
  • Identifying missing gaps in knowledge due to the pandemic
  • Providing high-quality, individualised feedback
  • Offering short, regular and sustained sessions
  • Limiting group sizes (maximum 3 pupils)
  • Effective planning
  • Using excellent teaching resources
  • Forming good relationships between tutors, pupils and families

In 2021/22, we provided 2,288 hours of school-led tutoring enabling 143 pupils to receive 16 hours of extra learning support. During the first week of the summer holiday, selected Year 5 pupils were invited to summer school where they focused on their missing gaps in learning.

In 2021/22, we spent £38,092.52 on school-led tutoring, using the school budget to fund the overspend.
