Communication and interaction needs may arise from speech delay, speech impairment, difficulties with expressive and receptive language, or social communication needs, including autism.
In this area of need, we:
- Assess using language scales, Formative Footprints or the National Curriculum for Speaking and Listening. We make referrals to the NHS where required.
- Set targets and plan opportunities for those targets to be met.
- Deliver lessons or intervention programmes, including advice from NHS Speech and Language Therapists, Autism Outreach and Educational Psychology.
- Review progress and plan next steps for each child.
We use signs and symbols from Widgit Online to enhance communication in our classroom routines and in learning tasks.
