Apply for a junior school place

If your child was born between 1 September 2014 and 31 August 2015 and is in their last year at infant school you should apply for their junior school place by 15 January 2022. Our application form is open from 9am on 8 November 2021 until midnight on Saturday 15 January 2022.

If your child attends a school outside of Derbyshire which operates a different pattern of education and they are due to transfer primary school phase in September 2022 this information will also apply to you. You should also make an application by 15 January 2022.

The application process is quick and easy. You can find information about how to choose a school and apply for a place in our parents guide to primary admissions.

Apply for a school place by telephone

You can also apply for a school place by telephone. Ring Call Derbyshire on tel: 01629 533190 from 8 November 2021 at 9am until 4pm on Saturday  15 January 2022 during Call Derbyshire opening hours.

School preference

You have a legal right to express a preference for which school you want your child to go to. This isn't the same as being able to choose.

Where you've told us of a preference for a particular school and there are places we'll try to offer you a place at that school. However, there's no automatic right to a place at a particular school and it may not always be possible to offer a place at your preference.

Changing school at other times

If you're moving to Derbyshire or want to apply for your child to move schools other than at the normal admission or transfer time, you can find out how to change schools.

Appeals

If you're unable to get a place for your child in your preferred school you can make an appeal against the decision. Your appeal will be heard by an appeal panel independent of the school and the council.
