Cotmanhay Junior School is inclusive.

Inclusive education means different and diverse pupils learning side by side in the same classroom. Cotmanhay Junior School is an inclusive setting, where every child belongs, feels safe, and is recognised for their strengths and abilities.

High quality teaching is the first step in responding to pupils who have or may have special educational needs or disability (SEND). Teachers make adaptations to ensure that all children, including those with SEND, can learn well.

Pupil voice and parent/carer voice is central to our approach and helps ensure that the support we give has impact. We work with each child and their parents or carers to build a SEND Support Plan that celebrates strengths and aims to reduce and remove barriers to learning.

We enact a graduated approach to SEND. This means that we assess, plan, do and review our teaching in a continuous cycle to make sure that all pupils progress and thrive.

We provide targeted or specialist support for pupils dependent on their needs and in accordance with Derbyshire County Council’s Graduated Response.

• Communication and Interaction Needs, including Autism
• Cognition and Learning Needs
• Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs, including ADHD
• Physical and Sensory Needs
