Y4 Term 4 We are toy designers

National curriculum content

Design, write and debug programs that accomplish specific goals, including controlling or simulating physical systems. Use sequence, selection, and repetition in programs; work with various forms of input and output. Use logical reasoning to explain how some simple algorithms work, and to detect and correct errors in algorithms and programs.

Lesson objectives

  1. Find out about inputs and outputs and plan your toy
  2. Design your toy in Scratch
  3. Program your toy simulation
  4. Test and improve your toy simulation
  5. Present your toy idea

What we want children to know

  • Design and make an on-screen prototype of a computer-controlled toy
  • Understand different forms of input and output (such as sensors, switches, motors, lights and speakers)
  • Design, write and debug the control and monitoring program for their toy

What skills we want children to develop

  • The pitch presentation will allow pupils to develop skills in spoken language.
