Y3 Term 6 The Seaside

National curriculum content

Name and locate some counties and cities of the United Kingdom. Extend their knowledge and understanding beyond the local area to include the United Kingdom. Learn about key topographical features (including coast and rivers) to understand how some of these aspects have changed over time.

 

Lesson objectives

  1. Locate coastal places on a map of the United Kingdom
  2. Learn about a region of the UK and discover how varied its coastline is
  3. Use geographical terms to describe coastal features
  4. Find out about activities that take place around the UK coast

 

What we want children to know

  • The location of coastal environments in the UK
  • Significant human and physical coastal features
  • How much the coasts change
  • Human coastal activities

 

What skills we want children to develop

  • Their locational and place knowledge of the UK’s coastal towns
  • Comparing different human and physical features of coastal areas
  • Being able to use geographical language to describe coastal features
  • Using a map, globe and atlas to locate different cities and towns
