2. Investigate using different media e.g. sketching pencils to create a variety of lines and tones.
3. Create freehand designs and images using circles and squares.
4. Create symmetrical patterns.
5. Create repeating patterns.
6. Make a printing block.
7. Use printing block to make a repeating pattern.
What we want children to know
- There are patterns all around us, natural and manmade.
- There are patterns in textiles from different times and cultures.
- They can combine and organise shapes, colours and patterns to create their own printed pattern.
What skills we want children to develop
- Experiment with the potential of various pencils.
- Explore different textures and experiment with mark making.
- Search for patterns around us in the world, pictures and objects, using sketchbooks to record.
- Create and use relief, impressed and mono-printing processes using e.g. string, card, and found objects.
